As the name suggests, it’s more of an update to their current OS called Lion aka 10.7 than a new OS. It does however, have some serious tricks up it’s sleeve, deeper iCloud Integration, iMessage, iPhone esque Notification Centre are just to name a few. iCrackUriDevice has done a great job at going through all the major feautures for us, that comes with this update. Hope you guys enjoy.

Video Features:
iCloud integration
Messages (a new cross-platform iOS and Mac messaging app)
Reminders
Notes (the new standalone version)
Notification Center
Share Sheets (a new way to share sites and photos)
Safari
Game Center (the Mac’s new cross-platform social gaming app)
If you’re running on iOS 5 and want to jailbreak your iDevice, the time is now, simply update to iOS 5.0.1 and it’s ready to be jailbroken with Redsn0w 0.9.10b3. This is an UNTETHERED jailbreak, meaning unlike a tethered jailbreak, this won’t require you to connect your iphone to the computer in case it runs out of battery and dies. It’s also worth nothing that this jailbreak will only work on A4 devices, which means any apple device that came out before or with iphone 4.

Unfortunately, apple doesn’t allow to use Siri on iPhone 4 phones, Siri is exclusive to iPhone 4S only, and that’s a problem, not anymore though because you can now have a fully fucntional Siri on your iPhone 4 without having to setup a Spire proxy server to make it work! It’s worth noting that this new hack only works if you have an iPhone 4S handy because it relies on a file that can only be extracted from an iPhone 4S.

Hey everyone, iOS 5 tethered Jailbreak is here! Yes, as the preveious statement suggests, it’s not untethered and you still can’t jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2. However, as we all know how it is with jailbreaks, it’s just a matter of time before one of the dev teams releases one for iPhone 4S. You can either watch the video to jailbreak your phone, or you could follow this step by step guide below.

Do note that you’ll need to download Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 and iOS 5 Firmware before you can continue. Here are the links:

Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 for Windows: Windows Redsn0w 0.9.9b6

Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 for Mac: Mac Redsn0w 0.9.9b6

iOS 5.0 Firmware Download:
iPhone 4 GSM 5.0
iPhone 4 CDMA 5.0
iPhone 3Gs 5.0
iPad 1st Gen 5.0
iPod Touch 4G 5.0
iPod Touch 3G 5.0

Jailbreak Instruction::

Step 1: Open Redsn0w, Select Extras, Select “Select IPSW”, Load the iOS 5 Firmware, Select “Install Cydia” and power off your iPhone. Click next, then Enter DFU mode using the instructions. The Jailbreak will begin so sit tight for 5 minutes.

Step 2: Now once your iPhone/iPod/iPad finishes your iDevice will reboot and your Cydia will crash when opened. What we will need to do to fix this is we once again open Redsn0w and select the iOS 5 Firmware, then select the option “Just boot tethered now”. Again enter DFU mode and this process will take much less time than the jailbreak. A pineapple will appear on the screen and this means the tethered boot is working. Just to let you know, You will have to follow Step 2 whenever your battery dies or you power off your device to get your iDevice to boot properly.

Step 3: Once complete You are done! Thanks for Watching/Reading & Please Like, Favorite & Subscribe!

Update: I you guys are having trouble updating to 5.0/4.2.10/4.3.5 with errors like 3194 or “This device is not eligible for the firmware update” ETC then follow the steps below:

* Download TinyUmbrella from the TinyUmbrella Website
* Launch it.
* Click on the “Advanced” tab.
* Uncheck “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit”
* Click on “Apply Changes”
* Reboot your PC/Mac.

Update: If your firmware is a .zip file once downloaded, Watch this video to fix the error HERE: If your ipsw Firmware file is showing up as a .zip then watch this video HERE: Zip To ipsw Fix Video

If your Redsn0w Is Freezing on certain points then watch this error fix video HERE: Redsn0w Error Fix Video

After I upgraded to iOS 5, I lost my jailbreak and all the nifty extra features that I was so in love with. SBSettings for example, was gone. Those of you don’t know what SBSettings is, it’s basically a pane that had wifi, bluetooth, restart, airplane mode on/off buttons in it, much like the one you get on Android, that would come up when you swiped down from the top the screen, just like you do to bring up the notification center in iOS 5. So whenever I need to turn on/off Wifi or airplane mode or bluetooth now, I have to go through some hoops, which is a real pain in the arse. Well, not anymore, a bloke called Jeff Broderic just created a very slick way to create shortcuts on your home screen for your most used settings, which means you get App like icon for Wifi, bluetooth, iCloud and etc and whenever you need to access them you just tap them and it takes you straight to the settings screen you want, no more hoops!

You can watch the video above or follow these instruction below:

1. Go to http://brdrck.me/settings

2. Select the button/shortcut you want and wait for the next screen.

3. Tap the install button and accept/authorise the installation.

4. Voila! You now have a Jailbreak-esque feature with no jailbreak.

It’s worth noting that some people might find it a bit annoying that when you click on a shortcut, it brings up the browser for half a second first and then go to the desired settings, it’s just too small a price to pay for such convenience. I have Wifi and Location on my homescreen and they’re working perfectly for me.

When I say unconfirmed, it means I didn’t get the chance to test it myself. However, there’s a bit of skeptisism rising around the tutorial on youtube whether this method actually works. Some people are saying it worked, some are saying it didn’t work at all and some are saying it only worked for a couple of minute. My suggestion would be giving a shot without any expectation. This method was only applied on US carrier AT&T subsidized iPhone 4S white, it’s not clear yet whether or not the same method is going to work in other countries. Here’s a written step by step version:

Insert original carrier AT&T SIM card
Dial 611 for AT&T customer service hotline and drop the call
Turn on Airplane Mode
Take out AT&T SIM card
Insert T-Mobile SIM card
Make sure WiFi is off ( also tap on ‘Forget this Network” to make sure it doesn’t connect automatically later)
Switch off Airplane Mode and iPhone will search for network. This is followed by the Apple splash screen appearing.
Activation Required will be displayed on the screen
EDGE network will activate automatically — notice the ‘E’ on the top left corner of the screen
Wait for about 20-30 seconds and turn off the phone
Turn on iPhone and the same Activation Required screen will be displayed
When you see one signal bar, tap on Use Cellular Connection
Eject SIM card
Activation Required screen will be displayed the second time
Insert SIM card
Check if it worked.

P.S. Here’s a another video from the same user answering some question that popped up on the tutorial comment thread. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6zZLvaQI4g

It’s the iPhone 4 video review. However, the reviewer does seem to focus more on the software side rather than on the hardware side, but then again, iPhone 4s looks pretty much exactly the same as it’s predecessor, the iPhone 4.

P.S. The Siri (Voice assistant feature on iOS 5) demo is a must see, around one minute into the video.
