How to add settings shortcuts for quick access on iPhone home screen
November 23, 2011After I upgraded to iOS 5, I lost my jailbreak and all the nifty extra features that I was so in love with. SBSettings for example, was gone. Those of you don’t know what SBSettings is, it’s basically a pane that had wifi, bluetooth, restart, airplane mode on/off buttons in it, much like the one you get on Android, that would come up when you swiped down from the top the screen, just like you do to bring up the notification center in iOS 5. So whenever I need to turn on/off Wifi or airplane mode or bluetooth now, I have to go through some hoops, which is a real pain in the arse. Well, not anymore, a bloke called Jeff Broderic just created a very slick way to create shortcuts on your home screen for your most used settings, which means you get App like icon for Wifi, bluetooth, iCloud and etc and whenever you need to access them you just tap them and it takes you straight to the settings screen you want, no more hoops!
You can watch the video above or follow these instruction below:
1. Go to http://brdrck.me/settings
2. Select the button/shortcut you want and wait for the next screen.
3. Tap the install button and accept/authorise the installation.
4. Voila! You now have a Jailbreak-esque feature with no jailbreak.
It’s worth noting that some people might find it a bit annoying that when you click on a shortcut, it brings up the browser for half a second first and then go to the desired settings, it’s just too small a price to pay for such convenience. I have Wifi and Location on my homescreen and they’re working perfectly for me.
